Support A Volunteer

Support A Volunteer

WfM’s Support a Volunteer (SAV) Fund gives financial assistance to travel expenses of members of the Free Church of Scotland volunteering for short-term mission work overseas.

Short-term mission work is an ideal way for Christians to gain some valuable insight and experience while supporting others. Over the years, WfM have been pleased to be able to offer financial support to many volunteers on their short-term mission trips around the world.

On their return, successful applicants are asked to provide a brief report about their experience and some photos.

Application Criteria

  • Grants are made at the discretion of the WfM committee.
  • You must apply at least two months prior to date of departure.
  • You must be a member within the Free Church.
  • You must be going on the mission trip as part of an organisation that is a charity registered organisation in Scotland (no independent travel).
  • The committee will consider funding up to 50% of travel expenses. The maximum grant payable is £500.
  • In order to benefit as many people as possible, applicants are invited to apply for a grant on not more than two occasions, within a two year period.
  • Applicants are required to be transparent about their other sources of funding.
  • The committee will only support applicants volunteering for evangelical mission.
  • Successful applicants must complete a report.

If the application for funds is successful, and once your period of mission work is finished, a report should be completed within two months of return. Where appropriate, this report may be used in Free Church publications, materials and web pages to highlight and encourage overseas mission. The only exception to this is if the work is of a sensitive nature. You may also be invited to give a report at WfM events.

How to Apply

If you’d like to apply for some funding, simply fill in the online application form. After an application form has been received, it will be considered by a committee of WfM representatives who will decide on a level of funding.
