Treacle Scones


1 lb (450g) plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
4 oz (100g) butter
2 tsp treacle


1. Sift flour and add all dry ingredients.
2. Rub in butter to resemble breadcrumbs.
3. Melt treacle and milk in pan.
4. Add to mixture to form a soft dough.
5. Roll out on a floured board, cut into rounds or triangles and place on a baking tray.
6. Bake in a pre-heated oven 230°C/450°F/Gas 8 for 12 minutes.
