Steamed Syrup Pudding


2 tblsp syrup
6 oz (175g) S. R. flour
2 oz (50g) sugar
3 oz (75g) margarine
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp lemon juice
1/4 pt (150ml) milk


1. Put syrup in bottom of greased pudding bowl.
2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and rub in margarine.
3. Add egg, lemon juice and milk and mix to a soft consistency.
4. Put mixture over syrup and cover bowl with greaseproof paper.
5. Steam in pan of boiling water for 1 1/2 hours.
Note: Do not allow water to dry out.
