Spaghetti Pie

Pre-heat oven to: 180°C/350°F/Gas 4
Time in oven: 25 minutes in total
Serves: 6


6 oz/175g spaghetti
2 oz/50g butter or margarine
3 oz/75g Parmesan cheese, grated
2 eggs, well beaten
salt and pepper
9 oz/250g cottage cheese
oil for frying
1 lb/450g mince
1 onion, chopped
½ green pepper, chopped
8 oz/225g can chopped tomatoes
6 oz/175g tomato paste or purée
½ tsp sugar
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp garlic salt
salt and pepper
4 oz/110g Mozzarella cheese, shredded


1. Cook spaghetti and drain. Stir in butter, Parmesan cheese and eggs. Season.
2. Line a buttered 10″/25.5cm pie plate with spaghetti mixture.
3. Spread cottage cheese over base.
4. While spaghetti is cooking, fry mince, onion, green pepper and meat for approximately 20 minutes until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Drain any liquid.
5. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato purée, sugar, oregano and garlic salt. Bring to boiling point.
6. Pour meat mixture over spaghetti base and bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
7. Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese on top and bake for 5 minutes until cheese is melted.
