Facilitating Youth Work through Heart for Home

Women for Mission are able to help Free Church groups and individuals who want to show Jesus’ compassion in their communities through the Heart for Home fund. We’ve been delighted to receive a number of applications recently which have helped to facilitate different kinds of youth work, from toddler groups to holiday clubs.

Buccleuch Free Church in Edinburgh used funding to purchase new toys and playmats for their toddlers’ ministry. This has made the church hall more welcoming for the children and also for the parents/carers. The group has families attending from all across the globe and has proven to be a welcoming facility for meeting together.

The fund was used by Dornoch Free Church for their weekly outreach group, Enlightening Youth, for P7 – S6 ages children. The group is building up on the good attendance at their summer Holiday Club to cement links between the church and community and provide a fun place to be during the week. The fund was used to purchase a projector and screen for games and movies, soft furnishings and a Bluetooth speaker.

Fort William and Kilmonivaig Free Church used the funds to support the running of a Family Fun Day. The aim of the event was to encourage locals to come along to the church and to raise awareness of the church’s presence in the community. They hired a bouncy castle, which was the star of the show. They had other games including fishing for rubber ducks, face painting, ring toss and bean bag throwing. Tea, coffee, juice and treats were provided throughout the day and as well as a BBQ at lunchtime. It was a great success with over 80 children attending alongside their families.

A new Playstation was purchased for a Teen Cafe Youth Club run by Charleston Community Church. The cafe is attended by young teenagers and the Playstation has proved to be a good way for leaders to come alongside the teenagers – especially boys – as playing a game can help develop connection and conversation. The vast majority of kids attending are from families where no one goes to church.

Heart for Home supported Tornagrain Community Church with the running of their holiday club. Funds went towards renting portaloos and buying snacks and crafts as well as supporting supplies for the parents’ coffee bar at the end of each day, which proved very useful as the families could hear the Gospel songs and hear a summary of the message that was shared with the children.

Crossbridge Church in Bearsden used the Heart for Home fund to purchase a projector for the Sunday School, which is used for lessons, slides and songs.

They also purchased lanyards for their Creche and Sunday School volunteers. Their hope is to create a welcoming, fun environment for children to learn about God and the joy of the gospel and, since the launch of these new initiatives, they’ve had many visitors with children who have attended.

We’ve been so encouraged to receive these applications and are grateful to God for the opportunity to support churches and individuals through the Heart for Home fund.

If you or your congregation have an idea to show Jesus’ compassion to those around you in your community, we’d love to hear from you.
